Well, it is not that easy to work in education fields, especially with young children. Why?? Is it because of the children's behaviour had changed compared to children's borned decade years ago, or the parent's expectation for their child are different nowadays?? Or, is it because of our country education system which was an exam-orientated country?? Haiz... that's why i said is not easy to work in education field. We have learnt a lot of child's development theories from Jean Piaget, Maria Montessori, Bandura and so on. However, we always knew what are the Developmentally Appropriate Practices(DAP) that children suppose to have. But, in Malaysia, those theory does not fully implemented in the real-life classroom experience. Currently I'm working in a kindergarten now. Sometimes I found that is really hard to bring in the theory into the classroom due to our Malaysian education system and parent's expectation. A developmentally appropriate program not suppose to have workbook, exam, or even spelling for young children. But I believed, most of the kindergarten in Malaysia 'prepare' that for children even though my kindergarten that I worked was doing that...=.=
Most of the theorist believed children learn through play, but most of the parents in Malaysia do not believe in that. They said workbook, worksheet exercises, and homework are best for their children's learning. Is very obvious to see that we need to educate parents before we can implement the DAP programs for children. Parents should know about child's development and the best way they learn. Through this, only we can help to provide a DAP program for children so that they learn in a meaningful way!! ^^
